Barnes Signs with Kent State University at Tuscarawas Women’s Basketball

Akeelha Barnes officially signs to continue her academic and athletic career at Kent State Tuscarawas.

Barnes, daughter of Whitney Barnes and Tajohn McCorkle, brings both talent and passion to the Golden Eagles program. A standout on the court, she earned Elite Raider of the Year honors during her high school career, a testament to her hard work, leadership, and impact on her team.

Basketball has always been more than just a sport for Barnes — it's her passion. When she's not competing, she enjoys spending her time around the game, continuing to sharpen her skills and grow as a player. Her dedication to the sport is evident in both her development and her desire to compete at the next level.

Off the court, Barnes plans to major in Music, showing her commitment to balancing academics and athletics while exploring her creative talents. Her well-rounded interests reflect the type of student-athlete the Golden Eagles pride themselves on bringing into their program.

"I can't wait to play for a college team and compete with new players while building new bonds," Barnes said.

With her competitive drive, award-winning background, and enthusiasm for the game, Akeelha Barnes is poised to make an immediate impact for Kent State Tuscarawas. The future looks bright as she begins this new chapter in her basketball journey.
