Game 1:
Kent State University at Tuscarawas battled early but couldn't contain a big mid-game surge in a 9–1 loss to Penn State DuBois on Friday.
Kent State Tuscarawas struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on a fielder's choice by Lillis that brought home a run to take an early 1–0 lead. The Eagles showed patience at the plate throughout the game, drawing four walks, with Lovelace leading the way with two.
The game remained close until the third inning, when Penn State DuBois took a 2–1 lead on a two-run home run. Despite solid efforts on the mound early—highlighted by Lemmel's seven strikeouts—Penn State DuBois broke the game open in the fifth inning with a six-run rally.
Offensively, Tuscarawas saw contributions from Van Horn and Kliffel, who each recorded a hit, while Lillis drove in the team's lone run. The Eagles continued to compete and show discipline at the plate despite the deficit.
Penn State DuBois totaled 12 hits and played clean defense, but Kent State Tuscarawas remained aggressive and engaged throughout, continuing to battle against a strong offensive outing from their opponent.
Game 2:
Kent State University at Tuscarawas powered past Penn State DuBois with an 8–5 victory on Friday, using timely hitting and persistence to secure the win.
Tuscarawas wasted no time getting started, plating two runs in the first inning after Lillis lined a single down the right field line and capitalized on a Penn State DuBois error. Despite the early momentum, the game remained tight as DuBois answered back and briefly took the lead in the second.
The Eagles continued to chip away and regained control in the middle innings. In the fifth, Tuscarawas evened the score with a combination of smart baserunning and clutch hitting, including a fielder's choice by Shepherd and an RBI single from Lovelace. They then took the lead for good in the sixth, again capitalizing on a defensive miscue to go ahead 6–5.
Shepherd delivered a strong performance on the mound, going the distance while striking out five to earn the win. The Eagles' offense was led by Lemmel, who drove in two runs and went 2-for-3, while both Lemmel and Lillis recorded multiple hits.
Golden Eagles Softball are set to take on Terra State on 4/18/26 at 1 and 3.
