Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a 2024 Harrison Central High School senior to their men's basketball team.

On Monday, Nick Fluharty signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles.

Fluharty, a 6'8", 195 lb. center/forward, is a three-year letter winner for the Huskies basketball team and earned three letters as a tight end for the HC football team. He was known as a team leader during games and practices and pushed his teammates to get better. As a sophomore he played in 21 varsity games and made his mark on defense with some foreshadowing of what was to come, by altering shots in the lane and averaging two blocks and four rebounds per game.

Academically, he has been honored as a Ruritan Scholar three times (2020-2023), as an Ohio Valley Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honoree for all four years of high school, National Technical Honor Society twice (2022,2023) and was inducted into the National Honor Society in 2024.

His community service includes volunteerism at Mid-Ohio Food Bank, Cadiz Food Pantry, Hopedale Fire Department, Biddy Basketball, Biddy Football, and the Armor Sports program at New Pointe Community Church.

At Kent State Tuscarawas Fluharty plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in sports administration.

"Nick is an outstanding young man that brings both, strong academics and a big on-court presence," said Kent State Tuscarawas Head Men's Basketball Coach Richard Tharp. "As a Golden Eagle, we believe the sky is the limit for Nick.  Along with size and coachability, he comes ready with a lot of the 'hard to coach' areas of the game under his belt.  We are very fortunate and excited to have Nick".
